I apologize for giving the impression that I thought that all of Africa had lots of open space - I thought that I had qualified that by mentioning Dakar (as just one example I can think of as being crowded, Lagos and Abijian also seem similar). When I mentioned empty, open space, I didn't imply that it was ugly, in fact I thought it was quite beautiful and did get out many times to just sit there and look up across the land and at the open sky (prior to the day I had a heat stroke). When I think of open space in Africa, I can't compare it to the U.S. It is an entire continent which is nearly (3 times?) the size of the U.S. We are a country and some of our open spaces in Missisippi or Texas can be driven across in a couple of hours. By the way, I believe that there can be such a thing as overdevelopment. I understand that some people associate it with progress, but I disagree. I think that a balance needs to be maintained between development for economic progress and the natural environment. For instance, in Florida, much of the Everglades is dissappearing becuase of this same pheneomena, in Louisianna, much of the swampland was filled in for the sake of development. This meant that when the annual floods come, there aren't any tree roots or sandy soil to prevent these places from flooding more severely than they normally would have. I guess becuase I grew up in the city, I enjoy the natural environment. Its a novelty for me and I enjoy it. I have to and have paid money to be in places where there is less development. Not just me - but many people who live in cities, suburbs and crowded places. So clearly empty spaces and slow paces are valued by some. And you know what kind of photos I take? Landscape, flowers and trees. Dont you think its kind of sad?

@Sabrina..I've seen pictures and heard of the beauty of the Seychelles. It's a place I look forward to visiting. It reminds me of the Virgin Islands.

Sally, you are so correct. Proof of this is our tendency (well, mines) to idealize that which we are unfamiliar with and take for granted that which we have. I love to roam around the world; I like land lots of land, "don't fence me in". :) :D ;D

I think we've already known and concluded that majority of them don't think as we think they do.....it's just a mere saying... But if they really think so....lets not just give a rat ass about it (no offense)
Peace
