African Brother Attacked!

This is pretty serious. And really, it truly enrages me. Here's what happened. Last night an African brother was jumped and beat up pretty badly by a group of about 12 Chinese guys near Jingän temple, near the entrance of where the old windows used to be--on the street. He had been drinking and was walking to try and get a taxi. They were asking him for money and used the fact that he, a poor student refuse, they decided to beat him up. He didn't stand a chance against all those fists and punches and was beat up pretty badly. People stopped to watch but apparently no one stopped to offer him help or to stop the mess. He's pretty banged up but afraid to go to the police because he thinks they won't take an assualt against a black man seriously or may try to say he brought it upon himself. And well, it would be pretty tough to give a detailed description on a gang attacking you, especially when covered in blood and one eye nearly punched out of its scoket. This is brutal folks. What should he do? Will the police simply laugh or will they pursue it as a serious matter. He is understandably angry and talking revenge. This may simply complicate things. So, any advice on what should be done here. What should he do? Any ideas on how to handle this?
PS. After they beat him, they stole his neck chain and 200rmb from the wallet.

Is this brother able to get medical attention?  If he doesn't know who the attackers are then going for revenge is really foolish.  The best tactic might be to set it up so that none of us ever goes out alone.  We should form a network

I've recently heard that it's pretty bad for blacks in Guangzhou and Shenzhen.  I was told that a brotha was stabbed with a sword and that some were beat up in night clubs.  Just the other day a guy from Singapore was telling me that I was lucky I wasn't in Guangzhou when i was sitting by myself at a bar.  I've never had any problems in China but it seems something is brewing.  Next month is supposed to be the conference of African nations and China.  Does anyone know what to expect from the "unprecedented cooperation"?  I'm from the states and I really do know much about Afro-Sino relations.

Tell the broda to go to the police and report the case.PERIOD.After that,he should make sure he never goes out alone or without a knife.

You are right! He should go to the police to ask for help! I know the chinese policeman should pay more attention to the case if foreigner was attacked by chinese guys. If necessary, ask for consulate to press the located police.
The violences were happen anywhere in the world, not only in Guangzhou or Shenzhen. I do confess most chinese look on violences with folder armssit by rather than give help. Chinese have higher incomes,but lower morals.

According to my BF, it's something that already happened.  Like this African girl was bring raped by a gang of Chinese men (about 4) in the Jian An Xi Guangchang vicinity.  Don't really know if it's true though.

I do agree with Lilian here.  The Chinese police take the matter a whole lot more seriously if the victim's a foreigner.  All the best to your friend, hope he recovers soon.

I suggest who ever knows the dude to tell him to go to the police, if he gets no help, he should take pictures of himself badly beat up and post them with a narrative on a website, preferably a Chinese site.

This tendency of fighting a single person in groups is dangerous, an Australian guy was killed out in Maoming Road a few years back by a group of Chinese guys. One thing i've come to learn here in China is that there's no man to man kind of figting, he who has the most people wins. And being a foreigner the chances of ur having a contingent  of ready to kill friends is rather low.

I doubt the police can do anything about it now.  Someone should have brought him straight to the police station right after he was beaten up.  Probably a bit too late now, not sure.

So let me get this straight, an african guy got beatup by some chinese dudes, and he decided to just go home to his place, in pain! and not tell the police because he think that they won't help? hahahah this is far to weird? what is wrong with you people? why do you guys think the police here are any different from the police anywhere else? listen to me BOY!! get your Arse to the police station now and report that you got beat down ,before I kick your arse myself all over again, damn ya'll brothrs are silly....

Where I come from you don't call a grown man, esp. a grown black man "BOY".  I don't find anything humorous about this.  I think the brother had every reason to believe the police would do nothing.  There has been more than enough history in Africa and the US that shows that police tend to look the other way when Blacks need help in matters such as this.

I think Khabzela's idea is good.  Putting it out there on the Internet may cause some embarassment to the right officials and creat a real investigation.
