Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your job offer in Shanghai.  If you haven't lived in the city before, it's definitely a great place to live and work.

What are your questions?  I think I can answer some if not all of them, and I'm sure there are plenty of other members in the forum who can help.

Thnks for the response..

I was wondering if anyone is particularly from Shanghai. and
How much would you think is the minimum starting salary for a fresh graduate from college with at most a 1 year experience? By the way, this is for an IT/Marketing course
In the Shanghai area, how much do you think I can get a studio type apartment for rent (per month)

Due to the excessive supply of college graduates to the job market, the starting salary can go as low as 1000 yuan a month, with the average of 2000 yuan for the entire job market.  The average starting salary for IT is a bit higher, about 3000 yuan.  But if you graduate from a top-notch university like Jiaotong University or Fudan with a hot major like computer science or telecomm, the starting salary can be as low as 6000 yuan but as high as 9000 yuan.

ChinaHR.com offers a salary guide where you can find average salary according to a set of criteria such as industry, position, education, years of experience, etc.  The URL is:

http://content.chinahr.com/jobs_salary/Default.aspx?clickbutton=2

As to the apartment rent in Shanghai, a studio or 1-bedroom apartment would cost 2000+ yuan a month.  It's not cheap compared with the fairly low starting salary, so many college graduates either stay with family (if they are native Shanghaiese) or has a roommate to save costs.  You can check apartment rent resources at:

http://www.anjia.com/

Good luck!

For those bi-racial if they are also bilingual, there will be a lot of opportinities for them in the growing Sino-Africa trading. I read news that local trading companies are now hiring Chinese speaking Africans in the trading/exporting business. I bet bi-racial should be more easy to communicate with both sides.

True, but then again being Afro-Asian isn't necessarily being Sino-African.
