What is Foreign Direct Investment, OK, get the meaning from the context. it means just that. But what does it mean for Africa, i doubt it means the same as in the Conteporary English Dictionary if it is there, or any Economic Dictionary. I am concerned because African countries opened their boarders to such investments, but guess what, this comes with its rules. If foreign Multinationals are intersted in investing in Africa, they must abide by the African rules, but they don't, it is only in SOuth Africa that when such MNC's come to invest, they first show their Corporate Socail Responsibility (CSR), and many other things, and i tell you, this MNC's do a lot of charity, CSR in South Africa, and it is not that SOuth Africa has the best tax laws or the best attrations than other coutnries, yes is has advanced infrastructure, but countries like Botswana has some other things which are more inmportant to businesses of foreign descent like tax rebates, good corporate tax laws, ununionised labour, cheap labour, good communication infrastructure, skilled labour just to mention a few, but guess what, they come to Botswana for five years, then they leave to South Africa, sighting reasons that i never find valid, they say there is no business, but all along they produced their good s for export. Motor giants, Hyundai and Volvo, invested in Botswana for five years, just before their tax breaks finished, they closed down and moved to South Africa.

Just tell me how much they made in the past five years, they paid no tax, paid low wages, and enjoyed all the benefits unde the banner of FDI, don't you think African countries are taken for a ride, In Africa, we need to think twice, lay the rules and any visitor should abide by them, or if our laws are lower in standard, then international law like the UN laws of polution, and others should be followed. ..........to be continued.........
