The time has come to start rethinking the next honorable for this African long awaited best player award which has been all along been handed to Barcelonan Samuel Eto'o Fils of Cameroon. The point is his rivals like Michael Essien of Ghana and Didier Drogba of Ivory Coast are very talented but what is behind their defeat against their ash-rival Eto'o.I guess Eto'o's challenge comes from his numerous goals in Barcelone leading the team to world victories and recognition.Again in the African scene his fame rose within the past 3 years making it difficult for Drogba to challenge him.

This time around for justice to be done I think African shouls open their eyes widely than to vote for Eto'o for another 4th time simply because of his goals in Barcelona while Drogba scores goals in Africa and he is not handed the trophy. My point is given this same trophy to Eto'o will discourage many African players at home and abroad who think their names could be heard in and around the world at large. This said is because Eto'o will still score more goals in Barcelone and if care is not taken he might still take the Spanish 'pichichi' or highest goal scorer award.Let CAF and other football body take another criteria for juding players not only goals.

Why should the criteria be changed now?Is it because its Eto'o who is having it all the time?He worked for it and until someone beats him,it will be his own.Rather than thinking that his having it the 4th time will discourage other players, you should bear in mind that he may not always be there and while his glory lasts, let him enjoy it.If anyone wants to win the APOY,they should work harder.Hard work is the key to success.

Hello Fritzane,

I undestand that you want to give more support to other young african players to play hard when they joint their national teams. But The african best player award is about football performance in the word, but only for african players. I'm not satisfy with eto'o performance with the indomptables lions, but i think he going to get it again for the year 2006.

News reaching our ears says Eto'o has just been awarded African Best Player again for 2006 by FIFAPRO for the 4th consecative time, irrespective of the fact that he is suffering from a knee injury and have not been upto the task in the recent months, yet his award ceremony took place in Algeria this November.I guess we should try and figure out what holds for young talents in the world of African soccer.Eto'o's present performance can't be comparable to Drogba and Essien who jointly helped Chelsea out-played Barcelona in the ongoing Champion's League.Though Eto'o was absent but Drogba showed and expertise and Drogba who scored the opening said he dedicated this goal to one Chelsea supporter who coicidentally died in a road accident.I just believe if not that this vote is from players and coaches around the world then i would have accused the present CAF president Iya Mohammed of favoring his kinsmen Eto'o with a 4th best player award.

Hey Fritzane ,
No need to hate on E'to...he just deserves it...... remember it's gained by vote not by a single person's decision. he just deserves it. That's about it....
