Education system in China

Hi guys,
What do you think about the educaton system in China? How do chinese universities compare between themselves and with western (Europe/North America) universities?

In most universities, they're pretty lenient with the foreign students.  It is to my advantage but it does somewhat annoy me...

It ain't all that easy for me here.....They expect me to have the same standards with Chinese students here and that is really killing me. I didn't study chinese from my childhood and there's no way i can be up to them....Oh well, God help me

Awww  ...how many liuxuesheng are there in your university?

From my experience with College students and working in colleges in China the system doesn't appear to be very good.  There are few if any internship programs and the teaching staff is often overwhelmed.  Students have about 40 hours of classes a week, less than their highschool experience, and don't know what to do with their free time. 

Classes are basically lectures and very little is done to promot creativity.  Most campuses also have strict curfews...it's odd for me to see a curfew at a University....they're over 18!

That is true, there are still very stupid policy like turning off the light at night. Students have to study by using small battery powered lamps when are preparing for their exam. It is China !

Yeah, but the foreign students are given a whole lot more freedom...we don't have our lights switched off at a certain time, we can enter & leave the dorm gates at any time as well...

I really can't believe the Chinese students have curfew - esp. at this age...

Nevertheless it makes life a lot easier for them because they have to get their homeworks done at a certain time (unless they want to study with a torch).  Also helps them to sleep longer hours (my Chinese classmates go to bed as soon as the lights are switched off).  Which helps them to get up for class in the morning...

ofcourse china is a communist state,so u cant be surprised is there is  strict curfews in any universities.talking about strict curfews,my univeresity is worst back home bcos it is owned by a Rev.Father, so its like seminary school.

I went to small african-american, all girl, private college and we had a curfew the first week of school, but after that it was lifted.  Also at my school we were only allowed to have males in the dorm during visitor's hours with the door open.  But the majority of historically black colleges in the US have curfews.

Wow,ur school not all dat strict. in my univ back home,female visitors are never allowed inside the male hostels and same aplies to female hostels and imagine it is a university and not a high school. and once it is 5:00 pm,no female and male should be allowed to stay together even in classroom unless there is lectures going on then.if u are caught at 5:01 with the oppsite sex,then both of u will be expelled even if  u are teaching the gal some mathematics....

WOW!  That is super strict.  I guess my school is strict based on US standards.  Because my college was private it had a different set of rules.  But in US  public colleges and universities there are male/female dorms, 24 hour visitation, all night parties in the dorm, etc.  it is like a free for all. 

Well we don't have universities back home so I guess I can't share a "back home" story.  LMAO.

Our foreigner dorms go by more or less the same rules (or lack of, rather ) as the US public schools then. We're even allowed to have the opposite sex as a room mate.

Well...... the school i was in back at home was prity cool all you had to do is make sure you dont miss out on the classes....and dont end up showing up when your still high.....
The hostels,allowed both sexes but only in second,third and fourth year.
Most guys had made a home out of the school,by moving in with their chicks/guys..who necessarily weren't studying there.
Some people even refurnished up there hostels and made them all homely.... .
We had,bar board one for the students and another one for the teachers.
The students section of the bar  was filled with pooltables,dat boards and Foosballs..... ..... this part of the section was only controled and managed by the students every year we woud select,a student leader who would manage the school canteen,the bar and make sure the dj at the bar was always takencare of. ....To much fun one might.....think... ....well..some people do get lost on all of this.. ......what the h***
people do get lost regardless.. .....of where you are and what your up to it's all in the state of the mind though.....anyway just not to get out of the.... ..main point... i just think that some of the schools here as i have heard are a little strict.....   ....i mean too strict.... ..they sound like one Catholic campus i know at home.... ...yaiks...i wasn't aloud to even visit my own cousin and it's a chick.. ...ohh my thats just.... ..i think i hear you collins.. .cheers.

LOL.. Now I wonder which is worse? Back in the Philippines,we had to wear uniforms (skirts/pants/sailor type styles) luckily for me, I went to private school and it was not enforced.. but i think the uniform system is used because its predominantly a Catholic country. Administrative officers in govt establishments had to wear uniforms as well..

But there was one I praticularly disliked with the education system in Phils.. Attendance monitoring.. like  , they had to take attendance for every lesson and 3-5 consecutive absences meant Dropped from the subject; so u had to re-enroll the next semester for that course.

But I totally agree, cos when I was in Nigeria, the system of education was so tough..Lord have mercy and it was the complete opposite in the Philippines, so i lagged and played so much during my college days..
