I got this message from a lady, a reporter for the Global Times, a national newspaper in China. She needed some help for a feature article on Africans in China or Guangzhou in particular.  Like some Chinese, she apparently thought I was an African probably because I spoke out for Africans from time to time, but I am Chinese in the U.S. and have never been in Guangzhou.

I am re-posting her message here. Hopefully, it won't bring you trouble but make you a celebrity in China if you are willing to help her. It's my wish at least.

Dear Jatoo,
This is Sarah LIANG from Global Times, www.globaltimes.com.cn
I'm writing a feature on the african community in Guangzhou. After staying there (mainly Baohan Jie area) for a week at the end of Feb, i hardly find any Africans that are willing to speak their heart to me, for example on their worries, frustration and distress etc, especially those foreign expats.
It's my belief that life is not totally rosy for you and your compatriotes living in Guangzhou - and i'm willing to listen.

Please get in touch with me - my deadline is very near now, in fact this weekend (mar 13-14).

My mobile is 139 113 66639.

Thanks,
Sarah
