What's YOUR Story?

A friend and I are working on a book that we're hoping to publish early next year (fingers crossed) about foreign students in Shanghai - students who have either studied Mandarin here or those who pursued their degree(s) here.

As I am from Sez and I am one of many representing Africa, I would really like to get some interesting stories out there for people, esp. the Chinese to read.  The book will be bi-lingual (English/Mandarin) and will have stories of personal accounts from students (or past students) of their experiences studying here in Shanghai.

So here's YOUR chance to be heard.  But no rants please. This book is partly being done for a good cause (a Shanghai charity).

We're looking for funny, sad, weird and even romantic stories.  So yeah, contact me if you're interested in being part of it.

Pat - what about an interview with you? Since you're the founder of an African community online and you've also studied here, it might be mutually beneficial to share your experiences...

Lol, not sure if I can comply to the no rants requirements, but sure if I can help that would be a pleasure. However I must say my personal story here in Shanghai is rather plain, nothing really extraordinary as I am not the most extroverted guy around and usually like to stay under the radar  On the other hand I have got some friends with more interesting stories but I am not sure they would agree to be interviewed

Thanks a bundle Pat. Well, in this case I think it would be a good idea to promote AfroShanghai.  Since the book is for new foreign students coming to live here, it is important for them to know that an African community does exist here, and everything they're going through are things someone else have gone through...just that support I guess.

Haha, rants are okay as long as they're balanced and justified.

Thanks for the support Kabz.

So far we've been receiving written works from all sorts of people; from different countries and all walks of life; people with one thing in common though: Shanghai.

I think that students and expats from African countries have a whole lot to share, and I'm confident that we're gonna "bring it" if anything.

p.s. just to be clear on what I meant by bilingual; you can submit written works in English, Mandarin or French.  The  "end product" will be in both English and Mandarin.  We've got translators "standing by".
