PETER HITCHENS: How China has created a new slave empire in Africa

Just read this article today, so wanted to share to get your views on the author (a Westerner) points:

...he told it as it is...but its high time africans took control of their destiny...but on the other hand i do not think this is possible soon enough coz for one..we the young generation are the only ones who have that desire of being free n creating our own new ways...then the same generation is pragued by economic problems thus rendering us incapable of being significant in any change and also lacking exposure unless the lucky few like us who have had a chance to get in depth views of how the "donors" view us...in short older africans r very awed by foreigners both useless n useful n until this group dies lets just chill n blog..n try the little we can to rise n make changes ourselves...by creating not chasing employment..this is our biggest mistake..suits n ties ..n the after school mindset....

Pat, this is a Brit writing to Brits.  The article is far too biased to be taken seriously.

The Chinese are getting Africans to dig in the mines so they can manufacture mobile phones for big European companies like Nokia...and that's just one small example.  Countries of the West are threatened and that's why their using mind games to manipulate their people. Let's not fall into this trap.

I'm  not saying we shouldn't keep a close watch on the Chinese and their presence in Africa, but that's between Africa and China, the West should just butt out of it.  If we ever need UN intervention we'll let them know.
