Hello,

My name is Tammy and I am a photojournalist from Australia. I am interested in documenting the lives of foreign families who are now permanently residing in China. This is part of a project based on the one child policy in China. My particular interest lies within families that have many children and the impact or lack of impact, the policy has on them as both a family unit and also as individuals who have relocated.

I would appreciate any help that you may be able to provide. If you know of anyone who would be interested in being involved please feel free to forward on my details. I also welcome any questions that you may have.

Many thanks!

The one child policy does not apply to foreigners residing in China, minorities within China or even mixed couples where one spouse is Han.

The policy also not apply if both the couples are the only child of their family.

Hello,

Sorry for the confusion everybody!

Hopefully this clarifies things:

I am interested in photo-documenting either foreign families or couples (both native and foreign) who have an abundance of children and are currently residents in China.

Yes, the one child policy does not apply to foreign families or even to those with one native partner etc, but perhaps via documentation, the uneven balance of this law will become obvious?

More specifically, I am looking for volunteer families who are interested in being involved in the photographic essay.

Oh ok, now that clarifies a lot of things, sorry for the confusion  :)

I doubt however that foreign families would be interested in exposing themselves through a photo-documentary, as unnecessary publicity is rather NOT recommended when living in China. Also you are starting from the principle that this policy is bad or "injust", while there were real motivations for the Chinese government to put it in place, and there may actually be advantages to it, that could be uncovered by a more in-depth study.

Wish you good luck, will talk about it to a couple of friends here who are already married (mixed couples mostly), and should they be interested they will get in touch with you through PM.

Thank you. I think my wording was slightly biased so I've modified.

I understand society may be slightly closed to the idea of a photo series but I am more than willing to work with their privacy in mind. I do however think this is a necessary story and believe that others do as well.

My personal opinion is that this policy can often influence unjust acts and there is most definitely, a realisation that there is a need for this policy to be put in place. There are always two sides to the coin and perhaps through personal experiences from people in the community, there are also disadvantages to it.

Nevertheless, it is a very interesting predicament that will only be unveiled by people directly involved and I thank you for forwarding on my information to your friends.

If you think one child policy is unjust, then you should really learn Chinese and see what is the public opinion of the general public in China. ;D
