I spent 4 days and 3 nights in HK and it was off the chain.  Shanghai is not the most cosmopolitan city in China.  HK has it beat by a mile.  My only gripe is the steep steep cost of living there.  If any of you working in the main land wants to visit then i suggest crossing through Shenzhen, it's cheaper, about 20RMB for shuttle to the train station/border if you come in from the airport.

Also brothers and sisters in HK seem to be doing well.  All of the ones I saw looked like they had good jobs or businesses.  I met a brotha on the subway rockin a 3 piece suit, laptop and two cellis (one for business and one for pleasure, I guess).

You don't have to worry about learning Cantonese because the level of English among many residents is better than that of mainlanders, per capita.

I don't know when but I will find a way to get back over there.

Thanks for sharing, have always liked the city as well. In fact my objective is to move there within the next five years  :) ; despite the higher cost, Hong Kong is definitely worth visiting and it is really different from the mainland...

Next time you travel south you should also consider Macau in your schedule  ;)

Can't say exactly but there is this peace of mind that you have once you are there that is so striking. Plus if you are the tourist type there are so many nice places to visit. The downtown area is relatively smaller than HK though, it takes less than a day to see it all by foot.

The food is also great especially the Portuguese cuisine. It really changes of the Chinese food if you have been in China too long as some of us have  :)

Gonna be hot when you get here ren da.  HK has an awesome public transportation system.  There is really no need to take a taxi, even if you're completely lost.  It's also cool that nearly everyone speaks English.

Probably just a few days or up to a week.  I'm going to try to get there from Shenzhen 'coz it's a place I want to visit too! :)
