I wasn't even refering to being a mixed in this topic. I'm only writing about being a foreigner.I wouldn't classify u as a foreigner in the land. My dear, what i meant is something to do with police and not about the locals. If u wanna generalize, then u can be right on the aspect of that being everywhere in the world. But i mean, the law enforcement agents treating u racially, ain't never seen in Nigeria, they rather protect u...

I do not think the police were just rushed in and arrested people. They should have been doing investigation covertly and identified the targets before they moved in. It is just common sense for people knows how the police work in China, especially when they are dealing with foreigners. BTW, Chinese will not feel upset when some Chinese drug dealers are arrested in other countries. Drug dealing is a serious crime here, no matter you are Chinese, white or black, drug dealers will be taken care of seriously.

I have more important things to do, Promo. More important people to talk to. It's just odd Baersworth, that no other race was suspected of dealing with drugs. If a group of about 20 Black guys were dealing that night, surely there were some white people who were taking too? So even if the police were right about all 20 Black men, the fact of the matter is they did discriminate. If the whole club was closed down and everyone had to be tested for drugs, or if some White and Chinese guys were also brought to the station I'm sure the Blacks in general won't be complaining this much. On one of the articles, a white guy said his Black friend was sitting right next to him and he was taken by the police...how can you feel that's 100% moral?

At about 1am, a group of five or six men in camouflage uniform charged past the Saddle towards Poachers’ Inn. Their average age was around 18 and 19 - some looked as young as 16, others maybe 25 - and their scruffy appearance, straggly hair and gangly limbs made them look decidedly amateurish. They do not seem to deserve the title “paramilitary police” given to them by the Reuters’ witness. ============================================================================ I think those young gugs were not "paramilitary police" at all. They should be those temporary security workers employed by the police if the description is correct. It also seems that most of if not all the articles on the web were quoting from the same article co-written by Reuters and SCMP. There were hundred of people out there at the scene, it is quite strange for everyone just to quote the same article if the police was arresting everyone with dark skin but not targetting at know drug dealers. The topic of the article will attract less eye balls if it said "Police round up Drug Dealers". The author was doing that deliberately, perhaps. About the question why the police only arrested black people there, I bet the drug selling gangs had their territories, and that place was controlled by one gang, and it so happened that they were black. The Police might have arrested some innocent people of the same colour, as they might be looking all the same to locals, just a guess. I do not know how many people were there in the club and how many of them were black, and if ALL the black people there were arrested without good reason but not the others, I think the people who had been treated unfairly should make a complaint and the Police do owe an explanation.

Anyone know links about this incident from Chinese online newspapers? I'd like to hear what the Chinese had to say about this. You're right Baersworth, it would be very different had they used "drug dealers" instead of "Blacks".

Not exactly on that incidence, but generally on the Police dealing with drug dealers in Beijing. It also said 48 monitoring cameras have been set up in the area. Most likely those drug dealers have been id. http://www.law-star.com/cac/40011026.htm

Pfft. I'm having a hard time trying to find any Chinese version of the incident. My search words: Sanlitun, African, drugs, beaten, police, and a few more...that's coz according to the Chinese, it was a 100% anti-drug operation, and 0% was based on stereotype. I've said it and I'll say it again: pfft.

i don't see the chinese media going against what the police did either. so controlled. =============================================================== There has been many incidences when Police abuse power and caused big public concern. Even the local Police want to control and cover up but obviously they cannot control medias from other cities and especially criticism on the web and on BBS forums. Perhaps that one concern foreigners and locals are not interested.
