I would say Rakim, Outkast and then Tupac. IMO, Tupac had the lyrically capability to rap about multiple subjects, where a lot of hip hop can not.

Yes. Good cases can be made for KRS-One and Rakim. My personal favorite when he was on point was Ras Kass.

KRS was definitely on point. i think NAS can spit and is internationally lifted with his lyrics. you can't forget about EPMD.

I like KRS-1, but I don't think he was the greatest. When I think of the greatest, I think about the topics discussed, longevity, appeal to the masses, etc... NAS is okay, but I don't have him in my top 5.

okay how about Chuck D. from Public Enemy. I know Flavor Flav just clowned the seriousness of the messages but Chuck D. is good. I've seen him perform and he's on point. You know I have to put LL Cool J on the list. I've watched him perform a lot of times and he just gives it to ya raw. Non stop energy. Although he tends to be more on the commercial side. His shows are the raw hip hop that these guys today can't provide.
They have to have all their mens an dem on the stage with tons of lighting and 20 dancers. give me a break.

I was thinking about LL Cool Jay. He has been in the game since the late eighties. If he came out with a song tomorrow, it definitely won't be cheesy.

Oh yes Chuck D is a legend. I haven't been to a Public Enemy show yet but I heard that they give a good show. Alot of cats don't do it like that these days. I heard Redman and KRS have good shows too. LL Cool J was tighter back in the days. Nas is a good poet when he wants to be. |

I saw Public Enemy and KRS-1 when I was a teenager, excellent show. I saw a Redman with Method Man, when they were on tour with Jay-Z. Their show was very high energy.
Nas is an excellent poet, but his stage presence was so-so.
