Close friends mean someone you can trust and turn to when you are in trouble. Boyfriends and girlfriends don't count.

by the way, I am Chinese. So I can't vote. But my friends from NYC has one, that is, me. So I vote for them.

Probably about 2.  One of which is out-of-this-world helpful (she'd go as far as skipping work to help me :o). :) and another one is my classmate.

Cassell, maybe you can tell us how many close, non-Chinese friends you have? ;)

In US lots and lots of non-chinese friends... including Koreans, latinos, blacks and whites.  I even have a friend who is native American. But only 7-8 of them are very close.
In China only 3. Two are black.

Well, the reason I don't have that many "close" Chinese friends is because of the language barrier... :-\
